SPP Training Poster now available

As many of you know, we’re deeply involved in the “youth steel” movement. Robin Taylor SPP_SIRT_targetjust released his training “poster” that emulates what it looks like to shoot the courses of fire used in “SPP” competition. The poster is immense — 60 inches wide — and portrays what the SPP courses would look like if you were standing in the shooter’s box.

Jordon Castro and Adam Thomas point to this poster as an important part of their training. Castro and Thomas finished No. 1 and No. 2 at the 2014 SPP Junior/Senior nationals in Sparta, Ill. Castro set the course record, closely trailed by Thomas and their teammates on Washington’s “Team Gotta.”

HK P30 magwell progressing

HKmagwellbetter

Our HKP30 magwell took a big step forward today. What looks like brass (at left) is actually a stainless-bronze matrix. Lighter and stronger than bronze, slightly heavier than stainless, it should be ideal for the relatively light P30. We’ve got a couple little fixes to make first, but we’re confident enough to be able to show this to the public. If you’d like to get in line to get one of the first ones, e-mail us! at rtaylor (at) taylorfreelance.com .

Glock Sight Block for the .40 Arrives

G22 to G24plusThis picture will need no explanation to serious USPSA/IPSC shooters. Our extended barrel conversion adapts the 5.88″ Lone Wolf threaded barrel for the Glock 35 to the common 4″-barrel Glock 22. The resulting pistol (what we call a “Glock 24-plus”) has the long sight radius of the G24, the medium slide weight of the Glock 35 (faster recovery), and a front sight behavior like no other Glock in production.

We received the first batch of the “G” model shroud today. Speaking about the “G” prototype, Robin Taylor says 165-grain bullets at just over 1000 fps worked “slick”–  but he’ll be experimenting with cast lead 175s at just under 1000. “Nobody shoots cast lead as their first choice, but given the price of bullets these days, the ability to use cast lead is another selling point that sets this system apart,” says Taylor. “Normal Glocks can’t use cast lead bullets safely — but this one can. It’s another reason to call this a G24-plus.”

Rainier Ballistics supports Team Gotta

RB Bullets loadLast week Rainier Ballistics came through with massive support for our junior team “Team Gotta.” Robin Taylor picked up 30,000 bullets for the team, which should set them up for the rest of the year, plus a little. Rainier’s support will save each “varsity” shooter hundreds of dollars in ammo costs, making practical shooting financially “possible” for many. Each student competitor loads their own ammo, making support from a Northwest bullet manufacturer like Rainier a natural fit.

New Video Clip: Tuning Glock Followers

Per a customer’s request, we did a short video recently on how to tweak the new Glock followers for best reliability. You’ll find it, and many others like it under “Youtube video support.”
