“Black Magic” locking plate experiment

_MG_9391black magic2 webOur Glock, XDM, and S&W mag extensions are known for staying on the gun, no matter what.  That comes at the cost of being a little slow to disassemble.

Michael Chludenski cooked up a mod to our locking plate that makes the extension easier to remove.  Last week I threw together a small batch of locking plates with his “cut” applied, and had them black anodized. We’re calling them a “black magic” locking plate, because they’re A: black, and B: spin out of the way like magic, without having to take either screw completely out.

We’d very much like to know what you the customer think of the idea, and what you think an appropriate price would be.

Live On The Power Factor Show

On Saturday, the Power Factor Show invited Robin Taylor to appear in their studios. We’re honored to discover they dedicated that week’s episode to our history and product line!

Fan Video?

Today we got a fun little video in from Jeff Davis, talking about his experiences playing with our +8 floorplate for the M&P.   (Tip: When our M&P gear balks on loading, it’s almost always the left-rear corner of the follower — you’ll see why in our YouTube Video Support section.)

Designed for duty, the Border Special adds 5 rounds of .40 or 9mm to the standard-length HK P30 magazine. Per our various testers’ requests, these feature a hollow-ground locking plate and anti-vibration screws — both of which are a significant upgrade.

Our HK customers also asked for a discreet black logo, instead of the usual shiny aluminum.

The Border Special also works with the HK P2000. Shown here is a prototype during a visit to the Blaine, WA  Customs and Border Patrol office.

Aaron Marco sends this comment:  “Hey I just wanted to drop you a line.. I went out to the US Shooting Academy this week and put down 3k rounds in 3 days. I used three converted mags and they ran like champs. In fact, one of them I’m getting 21 9mm in, though not reload-able. You did a great job.”

Troubleshooting the M&P Video

Our No. 1 customer complaint has always been “I only get +2!” That’s because we intentionally build the cavity in our magazine extensions slightly undersize to compensate for any possible misalignment between the mag tube and the extension. The downside to that is that occasionally the follower will hang up on its way into the magazine. This video shows Robin Taylor assembling an M&P extension that had this problem, and fixing it in real time.
