TF Supporting JJ Racaza’s World Shoot Effort

Caracal first draft view 2The World Shoot happens this year (the “Olympics” of Practical Shooting), and we’re doing our part to support the American squad. We’re a small firm, but when U.S. Production Team member JJ Racaza told us about changes he’d like on the basepads for his Caracal 9mm — we promised to help.

JJ showed us how the Caracal’s basepad is steeply angled, and somewhat slippery. If you aren’t holding on tight, the mag can slip out of your hand when it hits the pistol during a speed reload.

We’ve made a Caracal basepad similar to our Drop-Away basepad for the Glock — wedge-shaped to eliminate the angle, solid aluminum to add weight, and textured so it doesn’t slip.

At one ounce total, the “JJ”  is legal for all the major games. They’re getting ceramacoated now, and will be available shortly.

The first half-dozen (colored “Caracal orange” for the World Shoot) go to JJ the minute they arrive. He’s got his hands full training to beat the amazing Eric Grauffel (of France), and we wish him the best. — GO TEAM USA!

Hi-Cap Mags Available

Glock9magNeed mags? We picked up a small pile of hi-cap mags at auction recently. We’ve got Glock 17s, Glock 31s (works for .357 and .40), CZ Kadets, and the hard-to-find CZ Standard in .40.  You’ll find them under “Glock,” “CZ Kadet,” and “CZ Standard IPSC/Tactical Sports” in our web store.

HK P30 “Beta” Magwell Introduced

Marco magwellWe’re exploring new technologies to get our HKP30 magwell produced in stainless, but in the meanwhile, we’re running a small number of “beta” parts in PLA (a kind of plastic) on a 3D printer. This gun belongs to HK Pro team shooter Aaron Marco, and wears one of our “Beta” magwells (revision “E”). Also shown is our +5 “Border Special” extension. Marco competed with this set-up at the STI TXMG 3-Gun (see below).

We’re considering whether to also make this part in a polymer version (Mr. Marco thinks we should).  If you’re interested in either, please e-mail us.  If you’re interested in a “beta” — keep an eye on the web store.  We’re using these to proof out the design with the help of folks like Aaron Marco and Tj Lurvey, but if we have extras, you’ll find them there.

HK P30s at the TX Multigun

Thanks to Aaron Marco and Darin Cepeda for sending us links to their recent performances at the STI TXMG match. Both Marco and Cepeda used our HKP30 “Border Special” +5 basepads to great effect.  Watch how many rounds Marco and Cepeda fire out of their supposedly 15+1 round P30s at the last position.

Cepeda = http://youtu.be/gT3z06c2Xe4

Marco would go on to place 20th, Cepeda 22nd out of 270 competitors in Tac Optics division.

You can’t see it clearly in the video, but Marco is running a “Beta” of our prototype P30 magwell. He’s asked us to build him a second one, and Cepeda (who shot on Marco’s squad) has asked for one as well. Apparently Cepeda kept teasing Marco that his magwell “was going to get relocated to my gun during lunch when he wasn’t looking.”

Promag Warning

Promag blowout text

One of our local shooters ordered some “Promag” after-market S&W M&P magazines recently. His baseplates soon started popping off, dumping ammunition and magazine parts everywhere.
We took one of his mags home for a little inspection tour — and while the basepads were correct, the magazine tube was roughly .030″ too narrow.
Promag test text
We think this is simply a bad batch that got by the Promag QC people, so here’s the test:  Push the baseplate all the way left or right, and see if a gap appears between the mag tube and the inside edge of the baseplate.
If you can see the lower lip of the magazine — you’ve got a problem. Check yours right away!
