Defective HKP30/VP9 springs discovered

Proper spring protrusion

With the follower removed, a proper spring will protrude from the top of the magazine as shown.

If you purchased an HKP30/VP9 magazine extension from us in November/December, take a minute to check your springs — the supplied spring may be defective.

Your HK springs should slide into the magazine easily, without dragging on the sidewalls. Depending on the exact shape of the top coil, without the follower attached, it should slide all the way up until it protrudes out the top of the magazine. (See photo.)

If you have a caliper handy, you can also check the width of the bottom coils. They should measure approximately  .658 inches. The defective batch we’ve identified measures  .720.

We don’t have an exact number on how many “bad” springs are in circulation, but we expect the number is less than 50. If you have a defective spring, please return it to us for immediate replacement!

HK P30 Stainless/Bronze magwells arrive

balanced P30

Adding a matrix magwell (shown prior to finish) radically changes the way a P30 feels. Instead of balancing on the slide, a magwell-equipped gun balances at the top of the frame (above).

Took delivery today on the first 10 stainless/bronze magwells for the HK P30 (and some VP9’s) — ceracoated black and ready to go.

I pinned one on my P30, and the balance shift associated with using a METAL magwell is immediately obvious when you pick the gun up.  The gun is much “calmer” in the hand, and in recoil. The magwell also extends the front of the P30’s grip, letting you control the frame in ways you just couldn’t before.

The sandblasted surface leaves a slight roughness to aid gripping — but not so much that it will drag, or abrade clothing.

Our contractor has told us they won’t be able to hold their original price, so these first 10 units will likely be the only ones available at $90 apiece. If you want one of the originals, act now!

The Snake Hound Treatment

Just got these in today from Owen Martin at Snake Hound machine.

Snake Hound takes Taylor Freelance basepads like this +8/10 for the Glock, and dolls them up for their customers as part of a custom package like this one.  (The Glock +8 basepad shown is normally black.) We love the look!

Here’s an easy way to turn a TF +3 for a SIG 226 into a +5.  The SIG “20-round” magazine uses the same mag tube as the 15-round (standard) magazine, but with a shorter follower and a hollow plastic base pad.  A customer called this morning, wanting a better/stronger basepad that would give him 20 rounds. Switching the followers and adding one of our machined-aluminum +3 extensions got him a SECURE 20 rounds. You can do much the same thing by trimming the bottom of the stock follower to match the SIG “20 round” version (shown).

Success with the TF Sight Block

GabeReyesSightBlockweb

Just got this image in from Gabe Reyes in Arizona following his appearance at the “Left Out of Rio” shoot. He’s shooting a TF Sight Block mounted in a G22 slide. “I placed 3rd A class Limited, 6th Limited and 23rd out of 140 shooters.”

Note: Our Sight Blocks are set up for a Glock 22 slide, but we can shorten them to fit Glock 35 slides on request.
